RAIDERS ARMY

The RAIDERS ARMY MISSION:
To bring back the resurgence of the once formidable RAIDERS ARMY of the late 80's to early 90's.

Animation2.gif - 56210 Bytes This RAIDERS ARMY section of Mals Green Machine is running in conjunction with the original RAIDERS ARMY founders site: http://welcome.to/raiders-army/.

Quick History Lesson: Throughout the late '80s and early '90s there was a Raiders Army that traveled to every Raiders game in the ACT and NSW. Surprisingly, most of them were actually based in Sydney. They never failed, however, to catch a coach down to Canberra every weekend. There would have been over 100 participants, they had loud chants and huge flags.

But sadly, the superleague years were the reason for the declining of the Army, after hitting its peak in 1995. At the beginning of the 1999 season, all that was left of the original army was a couple of big flags that turned up occasionally to Sydney games.
On top of this there was a small group of flag wavers - an offshoot from the original army down in Canberra (going by no particular name, usually called the 'flag group').

Present Time: Mals Green Machine in conjunction with Nick Coyler and Kim Cox are trying to resurrect the once mighty Raiders Army. But we need your help. All you Canberra Raiders supporters, join the Army Today.
Over the pre-season, we have set about making the army as successful as possible for next year. We have had lengthy conversations with both Glenn Baker and Matt O'Neill (from the Saints and Bulldogs armies) about their success. We have attended Northern Spirit soccer games (they have the biggest army of any sports team in Australia - we still hate soccer though). We have made lists of possible names, made songbooks of chants, bought fabric for flags - even bought a drum. With your help the Raiders Army next year will be BIG.
BruceArea.jpg - 40086 Bytes We plan to unite Canberra supporters at all games (especially away games). We plan to have specific locations at each stadium, where the army and bus people sit near each other, giving all Raiders supporters the option of sitting with the fanatical rowdy flag waving bunch, or people who want to only sit and join in on the occasional chant. As far as Bruce Stadium is concerned, the flag group sits in bay 63 (see below).

There are a few Army members who made the trek down to Canberra a couple of times and joined the existing Army, something that we plan will become more frequent next season. They have now become a part of the Raiders Army as well, and most of them are hoping to catch supporters buses to away games this year.
